So far, no addon I've tried to add has worked, but the two I've tried repeatedly are firebug and adblock. For fun, I just tried noscript, flashblock, abine, and weatherfox. None worked, but the behavior was always the same.
The progress bar shows it downloading and then switches to "Installing" but the bar then remains grey. Switching from the "Get Addons" to "Extensions" ribbon, each extension shows with the grey "Installing" bar. After restarting firefox, the previously downloaded extensions are not shown.
