Here are 3 shots of the messages that pop up. they all now appear to be in a
waiting mode. I ran the program from terminal using "update-manager" as the
command. Something has changed from the first few times I was having issues
because when I initially started having problems, the message "applying
changes" would appear and the bar would go about halfway across the screen
and the program would appear to be frozen, as I couldn't close the boxes
using the Cancel button. Now the Cancel button is working, but The 3 times I
tried starting the updates, today, it came up with two different different
messages and in this "waiting" mode.

Sorry I can't be more help, I'm relatively new to Ubuntu and Linux.
(Incidentally I think that Ubuntu is a great!) thanks for any help you can
give me.
