Alberto: Do you encourage people to install envy via apt? If so perhaps you can push updates to people that pop up a small notification area message asking them to click for information if an upgrade is going to occur and then offer them an uninstall option? Perhaps update-manager could spot envy and envy to pop up a window allowing users to uninstall the drivers before the upgrade proper?
(PS: on bug #98641 my comment was intend to simply to temper the enthusiasm of some envy enthusiasts who forgot to tell users where they should go for support after adding 3rd party packages.
