I find it very surprising that this bug is still Unconfirmed. This is a major problem!
After installing release Fesity on my T-42p laptop, network manager refused to show any wireless networks until I inserted an "exit 0" at the top of /etc/init.d/avahi-daemon. This is bone stock Feisty, straight off the release CD.
