In Ubuntu 11.04 this bug still persists. The involved external drive is a 
Samsung S2 (1 TB, USB 3.0). I don't understand why is not working - I have two 
other external drives which are working perfectly. When I try to "Safely Remove 
Drive" the Samsung external hdd an error message (see the attached picture) is 
thrown:
Unable to stop drive:

Error detaching: helper exited with exit code 1: Detaching device /dev/sdb
USB device: /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.2)
SYNCHRONIZE CACHE: FAILED: No such file or directory
(Continuing despite SYNCHRONIZE CACHE failure.)
STOP UNIT: FAILED: No such file or directory
