hi, I've encountered something similar on my athlon64 x2 box: localedef would crash my box when installing. This happened on a clean install of 6.04 64-bit and later during an upgrade to 7.04. The locales causing the crash are hebrew UTF-8.
As a workaround, I booted with a Fedora 6 install dvd and chrooted into the partial install partition, set the LANG and LANGUAGE environment variables to 'C', and ran dpkg-reconfigure locales several times, until it managed to complete without Segmentation Fault or Memory Exhausted messages – this time the Segmentation Fault didn't crash the machine (the fedora uses different kernel). The curious thing is that this problem has never occurred before, when I had a regular sinle-core athlon64 cpu on the same box, I only noticed it when I decided to make a clean install a few weeks after I upgraded to a dual-core X2. Currently I can get away with running dpkg-reconfigure with LANG and LANGUAGE set to en_US.UTF-8 and PURGE=yes set in /etc/belocs/locale- gen.conf without any errors. -- localedef crashes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/25660 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
