Binary package hint: compiz

I'm experiencing problems with graphics windows in rkward 0.5.6 (obtained
from https://launchpad.net/~rkward-devel/+archive/rkward-stable). Basically,
the window is closed, directly after opening it. To reproduce
  1. start rkward
  2. wait until the status indicator at the lower right turns green
  3. switch to the "R Console"
  4. type "plot (1, 1)" [Enter].
Expected behavior: A plot window appears.
Actual behavior: No window appears.

Executing step 4 in an R terminal session works without apparent
problems.

Note that that the problem does *not* occur with RKWard 0.5.4.

After some diagnostics, the developer of RKWard (Thomas Friedrichsmeier) told
me that it is very likely to be a bug in my window manager (i.e. compiz version
1:0.9.4+bzr20110415-0ubuntu2), and I should open this bug
report incuding the following backgound information:
   - RKWard uses XReparentWindow to "capture" R graphics windows
   - The difference between rkward 0.5.4 and 0.5.6 with respect to graphics
windows is that in rkward 0.5.6, two separate processes are involved. I.e. the
graph window is created from the "rkward.rbackend" process, and it is captured
by the "rkward.fronted" process. Before RKWard 0.5.5, a single process was
involved, only.
   - The windows are reparented from the root window after they have been
mapped
   - This works reliably in many different window managers, including kwin and
metacity
   - It also appears to work ok with compiz 0.8.4-4 on the developer's Debian
sid system.
   - Apparently there have been some recent changes with respect to handling
of XReparentWindow, in response to this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/743011 . Perhaps this is
related.

** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
