You have been subscribed to a public bug: I am using Kubuntu feisty. Updated to the most recent packages.
When I reboot or logout from the current session I get a blank screen which doesnt show up any of the login fields (username, password, submit buttons etc.) for a long time. After say around 20-25 min automatically the login fields show up and I am able to login. Also sometimes when I logout I dont even see the screen at all. The screen just hangs showing a blinking cursor at the top left corner. I see the below errors in the syslog: Apr 23 20:08:05 prag-lnx1 kdm_greet[5961]: Can't open default user face Apr 23 20:14:56 prag-lnx1 kdm_greet[5961]: Internal error: memory corruption detected Apr 23 20:14:58 prag-lnx1 gconfd (jedi-6027): starting (version 2.18.0.1), pid 6027 user 'jedi' Apr 23 20:14:58 prag-lnx1 gconfd (jedi-6027): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory" to a read-only configuration source at position 0 Apr 23 20:14:58 prag-lnx1 gconfd (jedi-6027): Resolved address "xml:readwrite:/home/jedi/.gconf" to a writable configuration source at position 1 Apr 23 20:14:58 prag-lnx1 gconfd (jedi-6027): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults" to a read-only configuration source at position 2 Apr 23 20:14:58 prag-lnx1 gconfd (jedi-6027): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/var/lib/gconf/debian.defaults" to a read-only configuration source at position 3 Apr 23 20:14:58 prag-lnx1 gconfd (jedi-6027): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/var/lib/gconf/defaults" to a read-only configuration source at position 4 Apr 23 20:14:59 prag-lnx1 gconfd (jedi-6027): Resolved address "xml:readwrite:/home/jedi/.gconf" to a writable configuration source at position 0 Apr 23 20:16:16 prag-lnx1 gconfd (jedi-6027): Exiting Apr 23 20:16:16 prag-lnx1 kdm: :0[6755]: IO Error in XOpenDisplay Apr 23 20:16:16 prag-lnx1 kdm[5407]: X server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly Apr 23 20:16:16 prag-lnx1 kdm[5407]: Unable to fire up local display :0; disabling.
