This bug is bogus and should be closed out. I should know; I reported it. It is actually a hardware issue. Lenovo computers have an obscure on/off switch for the wireless. And, apparently, it's easy to turn the switch off by accident. This issue is covered in the Ubuntu help pages, and elsewhere.
