Phillipe, This is disingenuous. Do you really think that users care whether it is the driver, Jockey, Unity, or anything else that is the fault? The simple fact is that it is not working.
I have a GeForce GTX 285, not a cheap card. It works under 10.10. Under 11.04 I get no 3d graphics, no compiz. Its a VGA card for all practical purposes. There is (or was) a bug report to that effect. Marking that bug as invalid with so many people tracking it serves no practical purpose, but does infuriate people. As a developer of over 35 years experience, it sure infuriated me, so I guess I won't be alone. This is a very serious issue: Canonical have release an upgrade that cripples a lot of peoples PCs. It should have been found in testing and I believe is serious enough to have stopped the release. It concerns the major supplier of graphics cards, ergo a lot of people will have this bug. In my mind, if this happened in my company, we would pull the release and stoped further people getting in to problems until it was fixed. Otherwise there is a very real danger of alienating users. My regret is that due to personal circumstances I was not able to do a full test on Beta1 or Beta2. Had I been able to do this I would have found this earlier. I still think that marking the bug as "invalid" was the wrong message to send out.
