sorry.. it was my fault to talk of a 'icon problem' and point this bug report 
to nvidia-settings.
i should have opened the bug referred to the nvidia-glx package, that is part 
of the official ubuntu distribution.
furthrmore, in feisty, nvidia-settings does not conflict anymore with 
linux-restricted-modules, but only with the binary package nvidia-glx.

so the argumentations of the Emmet's  last comment in #44897 (imho) are
not valid anynmore for the nvidia-settings package and are not valid at
all for the nvidia-glx package

however i see that leaving a menu entry without an icon should cause
more bug reports than it could solve, but an icon was already proposed
by Cristophe Dumez  in bug #22297; i know it is not the best possible
icon, but i is already available and could be a temporary solution.
