I also have this problem on a Thinkpad T410 with the i5 processor with Intel 
integrated video. I am running the 64-bit OS.  This worked without an issue on 
Maverick.
-T410:~$ sudo dmidecode -t 11
# dmidecode 2.9
SMBIOS 2.6 present.
Handle 0x0027, DMI type 11, 5 bytes
OEM Strings
        String 1: IBM ThinkPad Embedded Controller -[6IHT39WW-1.14    ]-
