I'm a bit confused. When I start winpdb from the console on Natty, it starts up just fine for me. /usr/bin/winpdb has #!/usr/bin/python which in Natty gets you 2.7. I'm using the default winpdb package, so it's 1.4.6. At the very least "broken" is overstated.
I'm currently building 1.4.8 for Natty backported from Oneiric in my PPA (ppa:barry/python). Once it's built, please give it a try. I should have been more careful when I said we "decided not to backport winpdb 1.4.8". What I really meant was that I do not think it's a good idea to go through an SRU update for winpdb, for a couple of reasons. First, it's not clear we could isolate a minimum patch to fix the problem. Also, because I cannot find a NEWS or changelog file (or even the upstream version control system branch), it's harder to justify an SRU. However, it might indeed make sense to put winpdb 1.4.8 in backports. Since it's a leaf package with just a few reverse depends (quickly- ubuntu-template and spe), it should be fairly safe. I'd still love to have a simple reproducible test case to show the breakage on Natty. You can help by: * Providing a simple reproducible test case to show the Natty breakage * Testing my PPA build to see if it resolves your issue * Providing any addition information such as an upstream NEWS file or vcs branch that I can poke around in. If you can help out, I'll try to get 1.4.8 in backports.
