Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity
When video is playing, and the laptop lid is closed, the graphical interface stops responding normally. The only way to restore functionality is to switch to a TTY, kill, and restart Xorg. This happens no matter how video is played, whether through Totem, VLC, or a flash player in either Chrome of Friefox. Per power settings, the computer does not enter a suspend or hibernate mode, when the lid is closed, but the screen is blanked. After the lid is opened, the mouse continue to respond normally, but it is impossible to interact with any interface elements. Any normal visual-interface key-combinations like alt+tab do not have any effect. Ctrl+alt+F1 produces a TTY as expected. Killing Xorg is effective, and X re-launches itself automatically. This issue started immediately after the upgrade to 11.04, and is consistent and reproducible.
