Oh, just in case this proves of any use, I upgraded from 6.06 LTS to 6.10 before attempting to upgrade from 6.10 to 7.04. I did make sure that the update manager had nothing to add before I proceeded to the final upgrade. There were a couple of things, but they were grayed out, so I couldn't install them. I don't remember what they were though.
