Binary package hint: plymouth
when booting my Natty Narwhal non boot-splash appears
after grub selection:
-for a couple of seconds appears a blinking cursor on the top left corner (big
font)
-the screen goes off (black and with backlight off)
-drum roll and gdm prompt
I'm using an Acer Aspire Timeline X 5820-tg and with Maverick everything was
fine
I also think that the boot takes longer, but that's another story.
