It makes no sense to consider this bug invalid!

If there is a mandatory package for it to run (with GUI) it MUST be set on
the deb itself as a dependency that MUST be installed so the installation
process (apt-get install...) would also get it. Its a bug on the packaging
(.deb) of the package.

If its not supposed to be a dependency, there fore, not forcefully
installed, that there is a BUG in the kernel package rendering it impossible
to use in certain situations that must be fixed.

Either way, there is a bug, or it would have worked as expected.
