Public bug reported: I started to upgrade my installation of Ubuntu 10.10 on my dual boot desktop machine to Ubuntu 11.04. This machine has two hard drives - one for Windows and the other for Ubuntu.
The upgrade appeared to proceed normally until it got to the stage near the end where it asks whether to keep the original boot menu and suggested keeping the original. After pressing "Forward" there was some activity regarding the installation of the new system and then it stopped. The hard disc light was permanently on but not flashing and the computer was totally unresponsive I left it like this for about 15 minutes and when nothing further happened switched the computer off thinking/hoping that the installation would carry on from where it left off. On re-booting there was a new boot menu offering the new (but incomplete) installation. "Recovery Mode", "Other versions of Ubuntu" and Windows. I tried booting into all the options relating to Ubuntu but nothing happened apart from "Recovery" mode where there was a small amount of activity but it soon hung. The only option in the boot that worked was booting into Windows. Is it possible to continue the installation from where it hung, perhaps by using the live CD, or is it a case of having to do a fresh install. Unfortunately I have the old system backed up onto an 8 GB USB memory stick which seems to have "died" Can anyone help, please? ** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/781337 Title: A problem with Ubuntu 11.01 and Nvidia driver? -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
