Regarding the vertical space saving, I am all for such efforts. That said, if we compare traditional KDE apps with (even one row of) toolbars and the Kexi's tabbed toolbar, it is visible that the same vertical space is consumed except one line for the 'tabs'. It's open question how to reduce this overhead (maybe it's possible by extending dbusmenu).
