Half tempted to.. I was kinda joking about the Fork.. I've invested too
much time into Ubuntu to drop it stone dead.

But Ubuntu did fork from Debian with similar reasoning, except Debian's
inflexibility was with denying the use of non-free software.

It would be better if Ubuntu/Canonical could stick to their core values.
They have created a project that has turned out to be something far
greater than themselves. Now they are trampling on others who helped to
advocate and make this operating system great, because they are so
focused on get it out to a larger audience.

It's like an awesome band ditching their loyal die hard fan-base, and
writing crappy soulless pop music targeted to the seething masses of
teenage pop-loving brain-dead douche-bags.  Total. Sellout.

Ubuntu needs to be more popular, but Canonical must have a little faith
in the community to help get the message out there - not compromise on
what makes Ubuntu awesome.

This is a mistake that can still be undone.
