Please disregard my last comment. I discovered that the problem was my HDD - a Seagate Momentus XT "Hybrid" (which has 4GB of SSD and uses a cashing algorithm). I tried upgrading the firmware on the Momentus XT to "D25", but this only made my networking problems in 11.04 worse. Doing a clean install on a standard 5400RPM 2.5 inch HDD has solved my networking issues.
