Following up on the previous comment of mine. As I was closing down google-chrome, firefox Tomboy with Thunderbird 3.10 still running, I noticed the the dbus-daemon utilization had returned to near 0% I don't think that the other Apps shutting down had anything to do with the the dbus-daemon utilization returning to 0%, as navigating mail folders in Thunderbird certainly appears to have triggered the dbus_daemon CPU process utilization of 100%.
