Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vlc
There was a regression after an update of VLC/KDE. When VLc is associated with video files and I attempt to open a movie from e.g. Dolphin over SMB network - the file starts to download to temporary folder instead of playing it right away (VLC supports smb:// URLs). A bit of looking over net discovered that vlc.desktop file should be modified as follows: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=253547#c3 << OK then it's clear: what's missing is X-KDE-Protocols=http,ftp,smb in vlc's .desktop file. >> Please restore the correct behaviour. While I am not sure to which package faulty .desktop file belongs (dolphin? kde-app-data? vlc?) I submit this bug as VLC problem. I use VLC 1.1.7 on Ubuntu 10.04 x86_64 with KDE 4.6.x ** Affects: vlc (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/777636 Title: Restore VLC's ability to play SMB:// without downloading media files -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
