I can reproduce a complete freeze like this:
1) Have an SDHC memory card attached to an external USB card reader (I have the
card reader also connected to a hub).
2) Click and start playing a MOV-video (size of my video is around 300 MB) from
the card using the default movie player (Totem).
3) Try to safely remove the card while still playing. A dialog is opened saying
that movie player is still using the card.
4) Let the dialog be and instead right-click movie player icon on the Unity
launcher and close it.
5) Memory card is now unmounted and right after everything freezes.
