Summary: Upgrading from maverick to natty fails

Steps to reproduce: 
1. Install maverick 10.10
2. Log in to gnome desktop
3. Connect to network and wait for "11.04 Upgrade Available"  dialog box to 
appear
4. Click "Yes. Upgrade Now" button

Expected results:
10.10 is upgraded to 11.04

Actual results:
Error dialog box appears:
"Authentication failed

Authenticating the upgrade failed. There may be a problem with the
network or with the server. "

Additional info:
Running from the terminal reveals the following error: (/etc/apt/trusted.gpg 
exists, but can only be read by root. The application never asks for my 
password...)
