I'm having the same issue here. But I noticed something else, if my mouse pointer is in the dead zone, and I click my middle button, it triggers the Inititate Rotate Cube effect from compiz (o presumably, any other compiz effect you have binded to that mouse event). It's like the dead zone is a hole through the desktop. Could anyone else try and see if the same happens?
