The problem with NPAPI - if I interpreted it correctly - is that it is a cooperative solution, the plugin has to give focus back. So with old plugins it doesn't seem to solve anything. And even after that the user is completely left out of the loop, as you still can't configure which keys don't get sent to the plugin. Though it'd be better by lightyears than the current state.
