Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel
My laptop screen is broken, so I always use an external monitor (Samsung P2470HN 24'') since 10.10. After update to Natty (reinstalling Ubuntu), the resolution is always 1280x800. On monitor app, there isn't any resolution bigger than this one. I try changing video output through Fn+F5, and I even can get a better resolution, but it's not usable since I only got the upper Unity panel, but no app window. The background is black, applications menu don't appear and so on. I tried turning laptop on already connected to the monitor and also disconnected, but I fall into the same issue. lspci output: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) xrandr output: $ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 800, maximum 4096 x 4096 LVDS1 connected 1280x800+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 303mm x 190mm 1280x800 60.0*+ 1024x768 60.0 800x600 60.3 56.2 640x480 59.9 VGA1 connected 1280x800+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 510mm x 290mm 1920x1080 60.0 + 1600x1200 60.0 1680x1050 60.0 1280x1024 75.0 60.0 1440x900 75.0 59.9 1280x960 60.0 1280x800 59.8* 1152x864 75.0 1024x768 75.1 70.1 60.0 832x624 74.6 800x600 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2 640x480 72.8 75.0 66.7 60.0 720x400 70.1 TV1 unknown connection (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 848x480 30.0 + 640x480 30.0 + 1024x768 30.0 800x600 30.0 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: xorg 1:7.6+4ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-8.42-generic 2.6.38.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-8-generic x86_64 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core,bailer,detection,composite,opengl,compiztoolbox,decor,vpswitch,place,resize,grid,notification,imgpng,gnomecompat,move,session,mousepoll,regex,wall,wobbly,unitymtgrabhandles,animation,workarounds,animationaddon,expo,ezoom,staticswitcher,fade,scale,unityshell] CompositorRunning: compiz DRM.card0.LVDS.1: status: connected enabled: enabled dpms: On modes: 1280x800 edid-base64: AP///////wBMo0NWAAAAAAAPAQOAHhN4Cof1lFdPjCcnUFQAAAABAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEB7hoAgFAgEDAMQDMAL74QAAAZAAAADwAAAAAAAAAAACOHAmQAAAAA/gBTQU1TVU5HCiAgICAgAAAA/gBMVE4xNDFXMS1MMDMKAFI= DRM.card0.VGA.1: status: connected enabled: enabled dpms: On modes: 1920x1080 1600x1200 1680x1050 1280x1024 1280x1024 1440x900 1440x900 1280x960 1280x800 1152x864 1024x768 1024x768 1024x768 832x624 800x600 800x600 800x600 800x600 640x480 640x480 640x480 640x480 720x400 edid-base64: AP///////wBMLQsGNDJNRR0TAQMOMx14Ku6Ro1RMmSYPUFS/74CBAJUAswCBQHFPgYCpQJUPAjqAGHE4LUBYLEUA/iIRAAAeAAAA/QA4Sx5REQAKICAgICAgAAAA/ABTeW5jTWFzdGVyCiAgAAAA/wBIMUFLNTAwMDAwCiAgAIg= Date: Sat Apr 30 19:57:50 2011 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: natty DistroVariant: ubuntu GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:27a2] (rev 03) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Toshiba America Info Systems Device [1179:ff10] Subsystem: Toshiba America Info Systems Device [1179:ff10] InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.04 "Natty Narwhal" - Release amd64 (20110427.1) MachineType: TOSHIBA Satellite M115 PccardctlIdent: Socket 0: no product info available PccardctlStatus: Socket 0: no card ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=pt_BR:en LANG=pt_BR.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-8-generic root=UUID=afe25eeb-a6c7-47b9-93dd-26e755edbe50 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 Renderer: Unknown SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 03/09/2007 dmi.bios.vendor: Phoenix Technologies LTD dmi.bios.version: 1.50 dmi.board.name: MPAD-MSAE Customer Reference Boards dmi.board.vendor: Intel Corporation dmi.board.version: Not Applicable dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Tag dmi.chassis.type: 1 dmi.chassis.vendor: No Enclosure dmi.chassis.version: N/A dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnPhoenixTechnologiesLTD:bvr1.50:bd03/09/2007:svnTOSHIBA:pnSatelliteM115:pvrPSMB0U-018007:rvnIntelCorporation:rnMPAD-MSAECustomerReferenceBoards:rvrNotApplicable:cvnNoEnclosure:ct1:cvrN/A: dmi.product.name: Satellite M115 dmi.product.version: PSMB0U-018007 dmi.sys.vendor: TOSHIBA version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.4+bzr20110415-0ubuntu2 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs 20090808ubuntu13 version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.23-1ubuntu6 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 7.10.2-0ubuntu2 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 7.10.2-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg: xserver-xorg 1:7.6+4ubuntu3 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.14.0-0ubuntu4 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.16+git20110107+b795ca6e-0ubuntu7 ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug compiz-0.9 natty needs-reassignment regression-update resolution running-unity ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/774532 Title: Can't get bigger resolution than 1280x800 on external monitor -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
