Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg
After upgrade to Ubuntu 11.04, the X would not start except in safe mode. Choosing the old kernel version (vmlinuz-2.6.35-28-generic) worked around the problem, and I got the full X with hardware acceleration. The first error in the failing Xorg log (attached) was (EE) fglrx(0): ACPI: DRM connection failed ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: xorg 1:7.6+4ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-28.50-generic 2.6.35.11 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-28-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx Architecture: i386 CompizPlugins: [core,bailer,detection,composite,opengl,compiztoolbox,decor,snap,imgpng,resize,gnomecompat,regex,move,mousepoll,animation,vpswitch,workarounds,expo,resizeinfo,place,grid,wall,session,ezoom,staticswitcher,fade,scale] CompositorRunning: compiz Date: Sat Apr 30 13:29:43 2011 DistUpgraded: Log time: 2011-04-28 19:30:17.805862 DistroCodename: natty DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: fglrx, 8.840, 2.6.38-8-generic, i686: installed fglrx, 8.840, 2.6.35-28-generic, i686: installed GraphicsCard: ATI Technologies Inc RS880 [Radeon HD 4200] [1002:9710] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:2a92] InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" - Release i386 (20100429) JockeyStatus: xorg:fglrx - ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver (Proprietary, Enabled, In use) MachineType: Hewlett-Packard p6510f ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_CA:en PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_CA.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.35-28-generic root=UUID=c571283e-7772-4e00-8e9f-5d3114606f1f ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 Renderer: Unknown SourcePackage: xorg UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to natty on 2011-04-29 (1 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 04/12/2010 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: 6.03 dmi.board.name: 2A92 dmi.board.vendor: FOXCONN dmi.board.version: 1.01 dmi.chassis.asset.tag: MXX0210PCX dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.chassis.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr6.03:bd04/12/2010:svnHewlett-Packard:pnp6510f:pvr:rvnFOXCONN:rn2A92:rvr1.01:cvnHewlett-Packard:ct3:cvr: dmi.product.name: p6510f dmi.sys.vendor: Hewlett-Packard version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.4+bzr20110415-0ubuntu2 version.fglrx-installer: fglrx-installer N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.23-1ubuntu6 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 7.10.2-0ubuntu2 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 7.10.2-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg: xserver-xorg 1:7.6+4ubuntu3 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.14.0-0ubuntu4 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.16+git20110107+b795ca6e-0ubuntu7 ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug compiz-0.9 i386 natty needs-reassignment regression-update ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/774296 Title: Can't start X after upgrade to Natty with kernel 2.6.38-8 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
