The same bug occurs running Ubuntu 10.10 and modem-manager 0.4+git.20100809t153145.be28089-0ubuntu1 using a Huawei E122 USB modem with 3G AT UMTS (trading as "3") SIM card. After loosing contact to the GSM Network, the contact can only be re-established by first disabling "Mobile Broadband" in the NetworkManager applet and then reselecting the network service again via the NetworkManager applet.
