My problem is similar when I first boot and if I reboot it usually
solves it or sometimes turning the applet on and off and on again a few
times and than selecting connect will fix it.

Fresh install Ubuntu Beta 1 been like now running full ubuntu 11.04
Kernel 2.6.38-8-generic

I would like to add this is a problem that started in 10.10.....
This is a very annoying problem and should be consider high importance when you
have been dealing with this type of problem over one Ubuntu upgrade
I know this problem does not exit in latest Debian
