This bug also affect me as well: Acer Aspire ONE D255-2509.

To temporarily fix this problem, I did the following.:

sudo apt-get install pavucontrol

Go to 'input devices' and adjust the left channel to 100% and the right
channel to 0%.

To keep these settings from changing and the microphone working I did
the following:

Skype:

Unchecked the option to automatically adjusts audio levels in settings
menu.

Google Talk:

To turn off autoadjust by google talIk plugin:
cd ~/.config/google-googletalkplugin # get to google chat's directory
cp -p options options.bak # make a backup before changing stuff..
gedit options # edit the config file
If you don't have file named options in this folder create one..
Add following line to this file..
audio-flags=1
Save and close the file.
Close and open your browser and try making a audio call..it should work now..
