** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel On Karmic, clean installation: Intel driver hinders the performance of Java Swing applications using the GTK look and feel, running on a GNOME environment that is using themes like "Ambiance" (Karmic default), Human, Clearlooks, Dust and others. The problem is worse on applications using tabbed panes, such as Squirrel SQL Client. Changing between tabs take nearly a second to complete I'm sure it is a problem of the graphics driver. When using the VESA one on xorg.conf, the same applications run smoothly using the same VM/configuration. They also do in machines with other graphic cards. When I disable double buffering in Swing applications, they don't even get painted properly. Many thanks for your attention, and best wishes.
