I tested some more. The connection to the network is blocked everytime openvpn is successfully started. I installed openvpn on a machine in my local network and after staring openvpn I could ping the vpn IP but not the normal IP of the openvpn server. knetworkmanager is not installed, so the bug should probably be renamed?
