Public bug reported:

It doesn't matter if it's the globalmenu or the indicator-area, the
dropdown-menus are drawn in an rather ugly way.

Steps to reproduce

- hover over one of the said elements
- the dropdown-menu appears, at this point everything is OK.
- but when you release the menu or move to another element, the menu
disappears, for a short moment a white rectangular (same position/size as menu)
is drawn and flashes away

Wanted behaviour

the menu should simply fade-out. (... and maybe fade-in)
