Later observation: On one vm I had no problem with this open-vm-tools
rebuilding all previous kernel versions as well as the backported one.
On another, the dkms build failed on the previous latest-lucid kernel
and proceeded no further, and I had to manually enter the dkms commands
to build and install for the backport kernel. No idea why that should be
different, but I'm not an expert at this. :-) Reveals need for package
backport to be made available I guess. :-)
