Binary package hint: pm-utils

Choosing hibernate from the shutdown menu puts the computer into
hibernate mode successfuly (or at least it works like that). But during
boot system always start from the scratch. On my Lenovo X201 i can
reproduce it anytime, so let me know if there is log somewhere that has
to be enabled, and i can provide anything.
