Made some testing with mainline kernels from http://kernel.ubuntu.com /~kernel-ppa/mainline/ on my desktop PC (Acer Aspire M7811 )
With all natty releases tested (2.6.38-2, 2.6.37-6, 2.6.36-4) I've got the kernel panic problem with acpi=on. Unfortunately no bootstrap so no logs. With 2.6.33-02063307-generic (a maverick release) acpi work and the machine is up and running.
