I am also seeing this on 10.10 using the Ambience theme. Specifically, the tooltip background is black and the text is dark grey, making it unreadable. The text should be white as per the theme settings.
If you change the theme (and then change it back) whilst the program is running, the tooltips will work correctly again. Each fresh start of the program sees a return of the problem. I have also seen this in other QT applications under Gnome (eg. Skype) so this bug might lie somewhere other than with KMyMoney.
