Ok, so I tried the following:
 - Downloaded latest daily server image
 - Installed a server with no task selected
 - Installed: openssh-server, squid, squid-deb-proxy, samba and memcached
 - rebooted

The content of my /var/log/boot.log is the following:

stgraber@ubuntu:~$ cat /var/log/boot.log
fsck from util-linux-ng 2.17.2
/dev/vda1: clean, 63128/607200 files, 299840/2428672 blocks
 * Starting AppArmor profiles                                            [ OK ]
Starting memcached: memcached.
stgraber@ubuntu:~$

Your boot.log shows a log entry for each upstart job started/stopped. I don't
get this behavior by default on my system.
What did you do to get this ?

Thanks
