Well... after more than five (!) years (are there awards for longest standing bugs anywhere?), I noticed I'm not visiting that many sites anymore which use Java. And when I do visit them, Java is not working at all most of the time (e.g. map24.com -> interactive map). At least we've gone from 'Unknown' importance to 'Medium' importance. Keeping up this pace, I guess this bug will get high priority by the time Ubuntu 16.04 is going to be released :P
