Take a look at the window placement, at most systems all programs jumps fullscreen directly into your face. This behaviour is only configurable in ccsm. With latest unity patches most programs lacks visibility of their right windowborder. The unity panel left move the forced fullscreen windows to the right out of the screen. Configurable in ccsm..... or we get some other simple configuration tool for that.
