I'm attaching the xsession errors file from my last login. I've checked
that for me, this is repeatable:

Step 1: Log into Ubuntu Unity desktop
Step 2: Run program lightsoff (from the gnome-games package) since I know it
segfaults every time. (More correctly I guess it's seed that segfaults)
Notice that no crash report shows up.
Step 3: Log out, and log back into Ubuntu Classic. In the notification area,
there will be the crash symbol (red w/ ! mark); clicking on it will give me a
report that Seed has crashed.
(In this particular case I restarted rather than logging out, since I'd just
applied updates. I copied the xsession errors file just before restarting.)

Incidentally, I also have update-notifier set up under the old scheme
where an icon appears in the notification area when updates are
available (I prefer this to having update-manager pop up). At present
this icon also only appears in an Ubuntu Classic session.
