@kamal,

I am using Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 in my Dell studio 1558 and having the same
problem with my brightness controls not working.

I tried to follow the steps that you mentioned but seems like I lost
somewhere.

Here is what I did. Can you please tell me where things went wrong?

1) First downloaded the *.deb files from this url
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kamal/i915_brightness/latest-lucid/
2) Ran this command: sudo dpkg -i linux*kamal*.deb
Only the linux...all.deb file ran successfully. Other files gave this error
package architecture (amd64) does not match system (i386)

3) After reboot, output of "dmesg | grep backlight" gives nothing.

I am kind of a newbie and just know basic scripting. So can you please
guide me in detail how to fix this problem please.

Thanks.
