@kamal, I am using Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 in my Dell studio 1558 and having the same problem with my brightness controls not working.
I tried to follow the steps that you mentioned but seems like I lost somewhere. Here is what I did. Can you please tell me where things went wrong? 1) First downloaded the *.deb files from this url http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kamal/i915_brightness/latest-lucid/ 2) Ran this command: sudo dpkg -i linux*kamal*.deb Only the linux...all.deb file ran successfully. Other files gave this error package architecture (amd64) does not match system (i386) 3) After reboot, output of "dmesg | grep backlight" gives nothing. I am kind of a newbie and just know basic scripting. So can you please guide me in detail how to fix this problem please.
