I started white-listing all applications that I need to have an
indicator to manage. I don't know how to manage empathy without an
indicator, I also like to get mail-notifications, and to be told of
updates in the panel to choose when to install them. So I use:

gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist
"['JavaEmbeddedFrame', 'Wine', 'mail-notification','empathy','update-
manager']"

The update-manager notification I haven't been able to see yet if it
works, the other two work.

Are there plans to reenable these notifications with the "Unity" style?
Or to set up an alternative way of getting these notifications?
