I started white-listing all applications that I need to have an indicator to manage. I don't know how to manage empathy without an indicator, I also like to get mail-notifications, and to be told of updates in the panel to choose when to install them. So I use:
gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist "['JavaEmbeddedFrame', 'Wine', 'mail-notification','empathy','update- manager']" The update-manager notification I haven't been able to see yet if it works, the other two work. Are there plans to reenable these notifications with the "Unity" style?
