Ubiquity is the installater application for Ubuntu and it sounds like
you didn't even get to the point of running it.  From what you've
described it sounds to me like this may be a bug in your video driver.
How did you determine that the system was frozen?  Did you try pressing
the Caps Lock key to see if the indicator light changed?  Did you try
switching to a virtual terminal?  It would also help to know the exact
video card that you have.  You can determine this using the command
'lspic -vvnn'.  Thanks in advance.
