Here is what happened. In the mean time, I thought that the itself printer might be defective, and I called the HP support. We tested the printer on MacOS, and it was fine. After that, we configured the printer to operate over wireless, and when I logged back into Ubuntu, I configured it as any other network printer, and all was fine.
After your request to run command: lsusb -v |grep "1102" I plugged the printer into USB port and was shocked to see that it is working again! Not sure what happened, maybe it got to a bad state and it was nudged on the MacOS side; it is hard to say. In any case, I hope this information might help someone. The output of this command is: sudo lsusb -v | grep 1102 iProduct 2 HP LaserJet Professional P1102w Thank you, Igor -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/743301 Title: Printer not recognized anymore, " open device failed stat=12" -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
