I observed a similar behavior after upgrading my ThinkPad from edgy to feisty: My orinoco gold pcmcia card stopped working. Strange enough it got irq 4 assigned which was supposed to be reserved for irda.
The solution was to disable in yenta_socket the probing of isa irqs. In the options file in modprobe.d I entered: options yenta_socket isa-probe=0 After that yenta_socket got IRQ 11 and the orinoco card worked again.
