The sound and mic on my Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop were working perfectly until the infamous update. So, Ubuntu did recognize the hardware at one time.
It's worrisome that updates are made without full consideration of all users. And it's unfortunate that users negatively effected by the updates are in the minority of this community. Thank you, GaryBrlow, for your hard work and consideration. Here is the output of aplay -l on my laptop: **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: STAC92xx Analog [STAC92xx Analog] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 I will do a clean install of Feisty next week, and proceed from that point.
