*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 556782 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/556782
This started happening to me recently and I'm relating it to two distinct factors: firstly, no cpu scaling in ubuntu which means the cpu gets hotter and so does the gpu; secondly, the weather's getting a bit hotter here in Portugal so I guess the gfx card's saying bye bye... I'm still ubuntunizing but I'm planning my return to windows :( I've changed some settings in a modded bios ( see http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/480992-acer-laptop-phoenix-bios- bios-mod-request-108.html ) and reduced the gfx core to 200mhz and everything to do with voltage. So far it seems like it's holding itself together, managing to withstand a whopping 15 minutes without crashing...
